Introduction

Airport retail. Peak hours, every hour.

Operating duty-free stores across a major international airport, the retailer manages devices across multiple terminals and business functions. As its device fleet grew across retail and back-office operations, the retailer needed a centralized way to manage devices, secure access, and maintain endpoint security. It chose Scalefusion to bring its device management and security needs together on a single platform.

Challenges

Managing a dispersed, mixed-platform across secured terminals.

The retailer managed Android and iOS devices across multiple terminals, each requiring consistent policies to keep devices restricted to business use. At the same time, Windows and Mac devices used by the back-office team handled sensitive business operations and required stronger security and compliance management.

With stores located across secured airport areas, the IT team also needed to manage devices without relying on physical access. Application deployment, troubleshooting, and device support had to happen remotely, while location visibility was important for quickly identifying misplaced or missing devices.

The back-office environment presented another security challenge. Access to retail management and vendor systems needed to be tied to the security posture of the device, while Windows and Mac endpoints required govern for disk encryption, USB, and peripheral access.
Managing device operations, application access, remote support, location tracking, and endpoint security across separate tools would have added complexity for the IT team. The retailer needed a centralized platform to manage its entire device environment and enforce security policies across both retail and back-office operations.

Solution

Kiosk mode for the storefront.

The retailer used Scalefusion's Kiosk Mode to lock Android and iOS devices to the applications required for store operations. This kept devices focused on business tasks and prevented access to unauthorized apps and settings.

Location tracking across the fleet.

The retailer used Location Tracking to monitor the location of managed devices across its stores. Device Inventory Management provided a centralized view of device information, applications, health, and compliance, giving IT teams greater visibility across the fleet.

App distribution through the Enterprise Store.

With the Enterprise Store, IT teams could distribute and update business applications across retail devices remotely. This eliminated the need for manual installations and helped keep applications consistent across stores.

Remote support with Remote Cast & Control.

Remote Cast & Control enabled the IT team to view and troubleshoot devices across airport terminals without requiring physical access. This helped resolve device issues remotely, reducing the need for IT staff to visit individual stores.

Conditional access for the back office, through OneIdP.

For its Windows and Mac environment, the retailer used OneIdP to connect access to retail management and vendor systems with device compliance. This ensured that access was granted only from devices meeting the required security conditions.

Endpoint security for back-office machines, through Veltar.

Veltar helped secure the retailer's Windows and Mac devices with enforced disk encryption and policies over USB and peripheral access. This added another layer of protection for sensitive business and financial data handled by the back-office team.

Result

Centralized management across every terminal.

With Scalefusion, the retailer now manages approximately 1000+ Android, iOS, Windows, and Mac devices from a single console. Retail devices remain restricted to approved business applications, while IT teams can deploy applications, troubleshoot issues remotely, and track device locations across terminals.

For the back office, access to business systems is tied to device compliance, while Windows and Mac endpoints are protected with encryption and peripheral rules. With device inventory, health, and compliance visible from one place, the IT team can manage its retail and back-office environments with greater visibility and less manual effort.
