The Overview
Listening Books is a UK-based charity organization that lends high-quality audiobooks to individuals whose illness, mental health, physical, or learning disability affects their ability to read and hold printed books. This non-profit organization serves over 50,000 members across the UK, including visually impaired individuals, care homes, hospices, hospitals, and other organizations such as schools. Listening Book offers a collection of over 7,000 audiobooks by best-selling authors, which can be downloaded through Libby app, streamed through their website, or borrowed on MP3 CDs. The audiobooks are also a vital resource for students, as they align with the UK’s National Curriculum from Key Stage 2 to A-Level.
Their Goal: To ensure that individuals with disability or illnesses can access the audiobook app and that the tablets donated to hospitals are effectively utilized to meet their designated function.
The Challenge

Listening Books faced challenges with ensuring the tablets were used only for listening to audiobooks and not for personal activities like internet access, downloading apps, or browsing irrelevant websites. Additionally, the organization needed a solution to help them with bulk and remote app deployment on their donated tablets and track each tablet's activity to ensure that it served its intended purpose.

Listening Books found Scalefusion to be the appropriate and user-friendly mobile device management solution for solving its challenges. It enabled Listening Books to manage Android tablets given to their patrons efficiently. The application management feature allowed IT admins to remotely install the audiobook apps and manage other applications on all organization-owned tablets over the air, using a single web-based dashboard.
Scalefusion’s Kiosk mode feature helped the organization in locking down all the tablets to only the audiobook app. Using kiosk mode, these tablets could not be used for personal activities, therefore, irrelevant web-surfing and downloading entertainment and social media apps were automatically disabled.
With Scalefusion’s GPS-enabled location tracking, the IT admin could track any device’s exact location in real-time and obtain detailed location reports. Even with a low to know IT expertise the IT staff at Listening Books found Scalefusion’s dashboard easy to use. The team could smoothly enroll multiple tablets on the dashboard and manage them conveniently.
